Our experience with Statz Stone and Structure

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I do feel obliged to begin with a disclaimer - in that i/our family can only attest in this review to what i think is important to be said relative to our specific experience - that being our extremely good fortune financially which allowed us to even initially consider such an amazing dream like desire for such a grand project. And in light of that we humbly took quite a long time talking/planning privately about it. As it happened just before we were about to finally begin the process of vetting potential contractors we let it slip one evening after a few glasses to a couple of our dear friends who were over and right away in doing so were almost uncomfortably right away taken aback by their aplomb and excitement - i guess because in a sense our private fantasy was no longer but ultimately and far more importantly in the face of an almost wild reaction by them that they too had quite uncannily done the same and that we absolutely HAD to immediately acquiesce (at the time it felt like a demand!) the critical process of the lengthy search about finding what i dont feel pretentious saying (given our again such fortunate resources) an 'artist' like type in the field as opposed to a more traditional purveyor through very thorough vetting. Were it not for our rare and as such enormous appreciation for their exceptional taste - call us snobs but they truly were practically the only friends of ours that INSPIRED us - not so much because we had the same aesthetic tastes but because they were the only ones who awed us with their artistic choices despite being different from ours.. Anyway we were very grateful for their passionate thoughts that night and realized in the next (cold light of) day that whatever the case they had gifted us wonderfully with a place to start before we had to go the long haul cold route of interviewing prospective suitors. Even after this emphatic recommendation I still carried out a modicum of due dilengence anyway (i think in part because given how hard my husband has and does work so successfully for our family as a exceptional provider, I felt an obligation to cover my/our tracks given the huge expense. And when I did so I was shocked and dismayed given the awful reviews I found. And yet given how obscenely long winded this review has already become - long story short I went back to our friends adamantly questioning their passionate referral and was forcefully rebuked but still hummed and hawed to the point of even interviewing to more respected review wise companies but in the end was open still to give SS&S the same opportunity. And I am so glad I did. I was so impressed with Matthew Statz (CEO) from the start - not only because of what was almost immediately apparent as to his intelligence but most of all as we spoke as to - and this was so absent from the others despite their professionalism - in that HE LISTENED. And when I say he listened - I felt like that was all he wanted to do - was to be there to listen. And lord knows I had alot to say about our vision for this. And after being practically silent for what must have been eternity - he eloquently and methodically relayed precisely what this was going to take SO SPECIFICALLY to what we wanted that i was moved by how much he understood what i had said. I could go on and on but for the purposes of the space available here - within a week we received by letter such an impressive architectural like drafting of the design we'd translated to him that day which included things that we had not thought of but totally improved on our ideas - then he came to the house twice more just to talk about it - then sent final proof with the final price (which despite the other inferior estimates we'd got was significantly less cost wise) - to the point we almost thought it was too good to be true (and still with the horrible reviews in the back of our mind) watched initially with bated breath while he DELIVERED ON ALL OF HIS PROMISES AND DEADLINES AND COSTS - so brilliantly we could not believe our good luck all the while - and still during the process made on the spot changes according to our whims as we saw the way the job was developing. I cannot stress enough the total and completely impeccable professionalism displayed through the ENTIRE project - all in all 6 weeks - including the last two weeks whereby he worked 12+ hour days to ensure nailing our deadline in light of our daughters birthday. Perhaps its obvious its the first time i've ever written a review - shame on me - but despite how long this one is i felt compelled on a number of levels as is evident. But maybe most of all because I never would have dared employed him were it not for our friends given the bad reviews. Perhaps it goes to some amalgamation of never believe fully what you read combined with sometimes people will surprise you. If this hasnt been exhausting enough feel free to email me privately if you want any further information. Again i cannot speak for his past or for other very different sized jobs - only for our admittedly huge and costly one - but I feel so lucky to have done so for ours. And if on the unlikely chance you happen to read this Matthew - a sincere thanks from our family for the joy you've given us by your creation - we have been enjoying so immensely the oasis/sanctuary we dreamed of for years.

You offer to discuss further by e-mail but offer no email address. I would like project specifics; scope, description of work and pictures. Without more specific information it is very difficult to trust this review.

Excellent job - performed beyond our expectations.

I'm a bit surprised by the previous posts. We've now worked with SS&S for over 2 years and have had a considerable amount of high end work done. Matthew was very clear from the outset in what he promised to accomplish and met all deadlines accordingly. I found him very easy to work with as well as flexible when we wanted some changes to the original plan. His team was courteous and hard working as well. I've already recommend him to our neighbor and a relative who found him also to be a man of his word. The work undertaken required a high degree of craftsmanship and we were very pleased with the results.

Horrible home renovation

Matt Statz of Statz Stone and Structure is the worst company you could ever imagine. I wouldn't even call it a company. Most of his people have quit because they just couldn't work for him. We know Matt Statz quite well as he did a huge outdoor project for my husband and I. That project went well so we hired him to do a major basement and master bath renovation. It has been the worst experience of our life. He ripped apart our master bathroom 7 months ago and it is still not complete. He had one of his laborers do all the plumbing (not licensed or qualified..I have come to find out he has never done any plumbing before) in the bathroom and the pipes exploded and leaked all over the kitchen ceiling. We just hired another person to come in an finish the bathroom. Now, lets get to the basement. Seven months, still not finished and each time one of his incompentent workers come, they break something else. We had to finally tell him no more and cut our losses. Our house is in shambles. We are out tens of thousands of dollars. Please, please do not use this guy....even if your friend of neighbor recommended him to you. Please call me if you want to discuss any details. My name is Kelliann and my number is 703-405-****. I can also furnish you with names of others that he has done this to. Do not believe anything this guy says. He is a habitual liar and will con you!!! BEWARE.

Over 20+ years he has had more failed businesses, more law suits, more judgements, and more disgruntled employees than any business known to man. A true hustler and can charm the pants off of any customer.

No website either.

Hmmmm. AMAZING

Statz Stone and Structure - Patio and landscaping

Terrible job. We iired Statz Stone and Structure to build a patio and do some landscaping, they never met their deadlines, they were extremely unresponsive, they took large deposits and left months without doing any work. I had to keep staying on top of them to get most of the work completed. Do not hire unless you want to get ripped off and have to babysit your landscaper. Extremely unprofessional. They did a decent job with the design but failed to provide a proper contract. They put in dying plants and trees. Did not keep their promises. Extremely aggravating to work with and I do not recommend using them but instead use a larger reputable company like Merrifield or Powerhouse instead.

I have had over $500,000 in work done with this company. We have been TOTALLY satisfied.

We had other contractors come and they gave us a price that was double. We have had tons of work done on our home from other companies and you had to stay on top of all of them...that is just a fact of life.

The landscaper is willing to reimburse me for replacement plantings and trees given that I ask the webmaster to take down my previous posting and make no further blogs. I have contacted the webmaster to have my earlier posting taken down as the company is trying to rectify the situation. If reimbursement is not mailed by 15 October (per lanscaper's promise) and recieved by 1 November, then I will let the webmaster know!

I had to agree. I was not happy with the services.

You feel like the guy is trying to one over you. Would have to advise folks to stick to larger more well known contractors.

My wife and I have used this company for multiple projects over the years. I only came across this post while looking for his contact info.

The work we contracted for took longer than expected but we made many changes. We were and are EXTREMELY satisfied with all aspects of the projects.

We will use them again.
